EAA Chapter 72 upcoming events

️ 72.5 Student Group Meeting (November 07, 2026)

The Student group, ages 14-18, high school age, meet twice a month on the 1^st and 4^th Saturdays of the month from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm in the MLAA Hangar. This group is learning and studying for the FAA written exam needed to become a private pilot.

The topic for the November meeting will be to continue Unit2 of the Gleim PPL Knowledge Test Prep book.

Please register for this event so we will know how many participants to expect.

Our chapter offers an IMC/VMC Club for our members to network and share flying knowledge and experience. Each month we cover an IFR and a VFR topic. We meet the 2nd Wednesday of every month. More information can be found at: IMC/VMC Club

The VMC Question of the Month for November is:

For the following questions, assume the in-flight visibility is 10 miles.

Part A: You're flying over Atlantic coastal waters, just off shore in class G airspace with overlying class E airspace at 700

feet. If you are flying at an altitude of 600 feet, clear of clouds, and the ceiling is 700 feet MSL, are you meeting the cloud

clearance for day VFR flight?

Part B: Let's say the ceiling lifts a bit to 1,000 MSL. You would like a little more altitude to maintain glide distance to shore.

If you increase your altitude to 700 MSL, and still remain clear of clouds, are you still legal for day VFR?

The IMC Question of the Month for November is:

When flying IFR and under radar contact, what changes and conditions must pilots report to A TC?

This meeting will not qualify for Wings credit.

✈️ Young Eagles Rally (November 14, 2026)

The event is from 9AM-12PM at the EAA chapter 72 MLAA building at the Meadow Lake airport.

There are 3 scheduled flight periods (9:00am, 9:45am, 10:30am). Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your child's scheduled flight period. Go directly inside to the registration table to check in. There may be some waiting before your child's flight. Once your child's plane taxi's out, the average flight is 15 to 20 minutes. Please return to the registration desk after your child's flight to pick up their Young Eagles certificate.

Be sure to also check out the flight simulator and get more details on all the extra's available through the EAA Young Eagles and AeroEducate Programs.

Please DO NOT sign up your child to fly at this chapter more than once every six months. Thank you!

Coffee & Donuts Social (November 14, 2026)

Typically, on the 2nd Saturday of each month, we provide coffee & donuts upstairs in the MLAA hangar. Come socialize with our members.... share stores, discuss project progress, etc.

️ Chili Cook-off and Annual Membership Meeting (November 21, 2026)

* Bring a crockpot of chili to be judged. *

We'll start with the annual membership meeting. We're electing the Vice President and Secretary position. If you'd like to run for either position, contact Jim Steward at jdsteward75@gmail.com.

The chili cook-off will be immediately afterward. Bring your own crockpot of chili to be judged. Chapter 72 will provide all the extras, such as corn bread, cheese, onions, dessert, drinks.

Prizes to be awarded:

First Place - $75 or 3 hrs flight simulator time
Second Place - $50 or 2 hrs flight simulator time
Third Place - $25 or 1 hr flight simulator time

There will also be door prizes. Pick up your door prize ticket as you come up the stairs.

Our chapter has pre-purchased 75 adult tickets to Christmas Jubilee at the Flying W Ranch, and are excited to offer them to our members and guests at a discounted rate of $35/adult. When submitting your RSVP, please select and pay for your adult tickets here. The chapter is covering the remaining cost of the tickets.

Children 3 & under are free. For children aged 4-12, purchase tickets directly with Flying W, rather than using the adult tickets. Send your receipt to our chapter treasurer, to be reimbursed for half the cost. For these child tickets, add this to the notes during checkout "Please seat us with the EAA72 chapter group".
